Think you need urgent medical help?

If you have an urgent medical problem that’s not life-threatening, or you’re not sure what to do, just call NHS 111 first, or visit

The NHS 111 team will direct you to the service that best meets your needs. If that’s a visit to the emergency department at your local hospital, they can book you a time slot when you’ll be seen.

This means you could avoid a lengthy wait in the waiting room, and help us keep our patients and staff safe, too.

The NHS 111 service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including bank holidays. You can access the service by calling 111 from a telephone or visiting via a smartphone, tablet or computer.

  • All calls to NHS 111 are free, even from mobile phones
  • The service is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year
  • 999 is still the number to ring in a life-threatening emergency

Run out of medication?

If you’ve run out of your prescribed medicines, answer these few questions and the 111 service will provide advice on how to get an emergency prescription.
