Concerns about the welfare of a child - Child Protection Referral

If you are concerned that a child or young person is being harmed or neglected or is at risk of harm, you should contact the Family Operations Hub by calling:

0345 603 7627 (in hours)

Alternatively, the Out Of Hours service operates from 5.30pm - 9.00am Monday - Thursday, 4.30pm Friday - 9.00am Monday and Bank holidays and can be contacted via 0345 606 1212 or 0300 1230 779.

Referral must be followed up within 48 hours with a FORS referral form sent by secure fax or secure email (health must use an @nhs.net address) and send to : FOH@Essex.gcsx.gov.uk

Family Operations Hub Consultation Service 

The Family Operations Hub offer professionals a consultation service with a social worker to discuss concerns/possible referrals.  To access this service call 0345 603 7627, requesting the family NB: Only secure email addresses must be used when including and patient identifiable data; if emailing Essex County Council only those addresses that include ‘gcsx’ are secure (NEVER email to an insecure address e.g. @essex.gov.uk)

Effective Support for Families in Essex

This pathway is aimed at providing the most appropriate offer of early help for a family which can be needed at any point in a child or young person’s life.  The aim is to offer support early to help families solve problems or to reduce the impact of problems that have already emerged. Families will need to consent for this service to be offered.  Discussion on what types of early help might be available can be sought by calling 0345 603 7627.

‘SAL’ stands for Safeguarding Adults Line on 03452 66 66 63

AskSAL offer anything from straightforward information and advice about the abuse and the safety of adults in Essex, to the disclosure of a specific concern about your own safety of somebody that you know. Should you wish to report maltreatment of an adult in Essex they will take your concern seriously and ensure that it is investigated appropriately.

The guidance document was originally developed by Midland and East SHA in 2012 and then updated in 2015 by the CCG safeguarding leads across Essex and East Anglia.  NHS England commissioned the publishing of the document.
